Generator Solution Framework

Construction Site Temporary Power

Flexible, safe, and code-compliant temporary power systems for construction sites of all scales. From single-phase portable generators to three-phase trailer units with full distribution infrastructure.

Site Power from Groundbreaking to Handover

Construction sites demand reliable power throughout every project phase: site preparation, foundation work, structural framing, MEP rough-in, finishing, and commissioning. A well-designed temporary power system provides the right voltage, amperage, and distribution points at every stage, ensuring tools, pumps, lighting, and site offices operate without interruption. SolutionMall offers a complete range of trailer-mounted diesel generators, portable units, temporary distribution boards, cable ramps, and grounding equipment to meet NEC 590 and local code requirements.

Construction Site Temporary Power

Common Power Challenges on Construction Sites

Unpredictable Load Growth
Power demand increases as more trades arrive on site. The system must be scalable from early earthworks to peak finishing-phase loads.
Harsh Environmental Conditions
Dust, mud, rain, and vibration degrade electrical equipment. All components must be rated for outdoor, industrial-duty use.
Cable Safety at Pedestrian Crossings
Trailing cables across walkways create trip and electrocution hazards. Cable ramps and proper routing are mandatory.
Fuel Logistics
Remote or urban-constrained sites face challenges in maintaining continuous fuel supply for generator operation.
Code Compliance
Temporary electrical installations must comply with NEC Article 590, local authority requirements, and site safety plans.
Multiple Trade Coordination
Electricians, welders, carpenters, and HVAC crews all need power simultaneously, requiring careful load balancing.

Temporary Power System Components

A construction site power system typically consists of a generator as the primary source, a temporary distribution board for circuit protection and load splitting, cable ramps at all pedestrian crossings, and a grounding system. For larger sites, multiple distribution points fed from a central generator or a paralleled generator set may be required.

01
Trailer Diesel Generator
20–500 kVA diesel generator on a road-towable trailer. Provides three-phase 400V/50Hz or 120/240V/60Hz power. Weatherproof enclosure, lockable doors, and built-in fuel tank for 8–24 hours of operation.
02
Portable Generator
2–20 kW single-phase or three-phase portable units for small sites, remote work areas, or supplemental power. Gasoline or diesel fuel, electric start, GFCI outlets.
03
Temporary Distribution Board
IP54-rated outdoor distribution board with main breaker, RCD protection, and multiple circuit breakers. Provides 63A, 32A, and 16A outlets for different equipment classes.
04
Cable Ramp
Heavy-duty rubber or polyurethane cable ramps rated for vehicle traffic. Protects cables at road and pedestrian crossings, prevents tripping hazards.
05
Grounding System
Copper grounding rod and bonding cables to ensure equipment grounding continuity. Required by NEC 590 for all temporary installations.
06
Site Lighting Tower
Diesel or electric lighting tower with 4–6 metal halide or LED floodlights. Provides area illumination for night shifts and low-light work areas.

Typical Construction Site Applications

High-Rise Building Construction
Multiple distribution points across floors fed from a central 200–500 kVA generator. Vertical cable runs with proper support and protection.
Infrastructure Projects
Road, bridge, and tunnel construction requiring mobile power for heavy equipment, pumps, and lighting along extended work fronts.
Residential Development
Multiple house plots powered from a central generator with individual distribution boxes per plot for electricians, plumbers, and carpenters.
Industrial Plant Construction
Large-scale power for welding, heavy lifting equipment, and commissioning activities requiring 3-phase 400V at high amperage.

How to Set Up Site Temporary Power

1
Load Assessment
Calculate total connected load for all trades: power tools (2–5 kW each), welders (5–20 kW each), pumps (1–15 kW each), lighting, and site office. Apply a 0.6–0.8 demand factor.
2
Generator Sizing
Select generator rated at 125% of calculated demand load. Choose between single trailer unit or multiple smaller units for redundancy and flexibility.
3
Distribution Layout
Plan cable routes to minimize trip hazards. Install cable ramps at all crossings. Position distribution boards centrally to minimize cable runs.
4
Grounding Installation
Drive copper grounding rod minimum 2.4m into earth. Bond all metallic equipment enclosures and distribution boards to grounding system.
5
Commissioning and Testing
Test all circuits with load before site operations begin. Verify RCD trip times, check all outlet voltages, and confirm generator automatic shutdown alarms.
6
Ongoing Maintenance
Perform weekly generator checks: fuel level, oil level, coolant, battery, and run-test. Inspect cables and distribution boards daily for damage.
